Called “the pearl of the Orient”, Sri Lanka is renowned for its green tea plantations, its long and beautiful beaches, its rich culture and its many ancient sites (8 are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites).
There’s no better way than volunteering to completely immerse yourself in the local community and discover this Asian gem!
The local organization with which we collaborate shares our values and responds to the real needs of its community. We take care to protect vulnerable populations in our choice of activities and we make sure that our volunteering projects will have positive impacts that will continue over time.
The relationships you will develop on this trip will probably follow you all your life, whether it is with the local community or with the other volunteers! You will certainly create memorable memories through authentic and human experiences.
Our solid partnership with a local organization allows us to support its community projects at a very low cost. The costs cover your accommodation, food and transport, as well as all the support before, during and after the trip. Part of the costs will be used to purchase equipment for the projects according to the priorities once we'll be there.
Our local team as well as our guide are dedicated to ensuring your safety, comfort and pleasure throughout your volunteering trip. Have fun and enjoy your trip to the fullest!
Our local partner is a non-profit organization who has been operating in Galle and Badulla for several years. Our projects will take place in Badulla, located in the heart of the wonderful tea plantations for which Sri Lanka is world renowned! All of our projects will allow you to fully integrate into Sri Lankan culture by meeting locals of all ages.
During your volunteer trip, it is suggested that you participate in around 3-4 hours of volunteering per day (Monday to Friday) in order to create memorable memories with the local community and to really contribute to its development. You will also have the option of participating in one or many projects of your choice!
* When booking, please indicate the project(s) that interest you in the “Additional information” box.
Whether you are a teacher or just enjoy interacting with children, this project is for you! Join the local team of teachers to prepare and facilitate activities for the kids. The whole class will be very happy to welcome you!
This project will take place in a residence for the elderly, called “Badulla Elders’ Home”. The people there are semi-independent to independent. Most don’t really have access to health care, so if you have a particular skill in the field (medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, etc.), your help will be greatly appreciated!
On the other hand, these welcoming people will appreciate your presence and will love to do activities with you! Whether you want to do artistic activities, origami, yoga or any other activity, they will be more than happy to join you!
Are you an occupational therapy student or a professional who would like to develop your practice in a different context? This project is for you! An occupational therapist from Quebec (member of the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec) will accompany and support you in your practice.
Occupational therapy services will be offered to two types of clientele:
1- Pediatrics, including the assessment of the childrens’ needs, as well as interventions to support their development.
2- A geriatric clientele, including the assessment of their needs in terms of autonomy and daily functioning (physical and mental health), as well as interventions aimed at increasing mobility, managing pain, reactivation and any other need deemed relevant .
This project is for volunteers with specific skills to work with children with special needs. On the one hand, you can participate in the dance academy by animating creative activities related to dance and movement. We guarantee that you will leave the academy every day with a smile up to your ears! On the other hand, you will also have the opportunity to work in a school for deaf, mute and blind children and assist in teaching or animating special activities for them during the afternoon.
If you like to get your hands dirty and do manual work, look no further! You will have several construction, renovation and repair opportunities in the establishments where our other projects will take place (school, elders’ home, dance academy). In addition, for an even more enriching cultural experience, you could help renovate temples around the city of Badulla!
Your tour starts as soon as you arrive at Colombo airport, where we will welcome you with open arms! We will then head to Badulla in a private vehicle (5-6 hours drive), passing through breathtaking panoramas. We will be staying in Badulla throughout our volunteering trip.
On your first day of volunteering, we will introduce you to the community and the staff you will be working with for the next 2 weeks. We will also be more than happy to teach you more about the culture and customs of Sri Lanka!
You will have the opportunity to participate in one or more projects named above during your volunteering trip.
You will have the chance to participate in several cultural activities (included) in your free time: traditional cooking lessons, Buddhist religious session, tour of Badulla, tea plantation tour, bicycle ride in a tea plantation.
For those who are interested, we will end a few volunteering days with a yoga class.
During the weekend, you are free to explore the region as you wish! Several options are available for you: visit Ella, hike Little Adam’s Peak, visit some tea plantations and a tea factory, visit Dunhinda Falls, visit Nuwara Eliya and Horton Plains National Park, etc.
As the weekend activities are optional, the costs incurred will be entirely at your expense.
