Called “the pearl of the Orient”, Sri Lanka is renowned for its green tea plantations, its long and beautiful beaches, its rich culture and its many ancient sites (8 are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites). Discover this Asian gem on a tour combining culture, adventure and nature!
Your tour starts as soon as you arrive at Colombo airport, where we will welcome you with open arms! We will then head to Negombo, a very lively coastal town, famous for its fish market which we will visit in the afternoon.
We’ll move towards the Cultural Triangle of the country, where many ancient remains await us. We will visit the Dambulla Cave Temple, a Buddhist temple with impressive sacred caves. This unique historic site is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We will start the day early to head to the summit of Sigiriya, another UNESCO World Heritage site and a must-see in Sri Lanka! This ancient remain is a fortress built on top of a huge rock, from where we can admire the panoramic view of the surroundings. Then we will move to Pidurangala Rock from where we will have the best view of the imposing Sigiriya.
On our way to Kandy, we will make a few surprise stops to some more spectacular ancient sites – which are little known to tourists! We will then stop in a spice garden in the Matale region to let you travel with all your senses. Then you will have some free time to visit the historic city of Kandy.
This morning, we will discover the Peradeniya botanical garden which was once reserved exclusively for the royalty of Kandy. This garden contains many flowers, including an unprecedented collection of orchids, spices, medicinal plants and a large avenue of palm trees.
Then, we will take a seat on the train connecting Kandy to Ella for another must-see in Sri Lanka: the ride through the tea plantations. It’s the perfect opportunity to admire the green plantations on the way and perhaps you will have the chance to see tea pickers at work!
This morning, we will start the day with a walk through a marvelous tea plantation and we will visit a factory to understand the stages in the preparation of tea.
We’ll return to Ella for an easy hike to Little Adam’s Peak, leading you to breathtaking views of the region!
Harry Potter fans will be delighted: this morning we will visit a bridge very similar to the famous Glenfinnan viaduct, which is the bridge frequented by the Hogwarts Express. The Sri Lankan equivalent is called Demodara, or Nine Arches Bridge.
Next, we’ll head to Uda Walawe National Park, with a surprise stop on the way to a waterfall with a natural pool to cool off.
You will then have a free evening and we will spend the night at a luxury campsite near Uda Walawe National Park.
